Statement of core values (guiding principles)

KIA is a neutral, independent, and member-driven organization.
KIA exists to maximize the resources of its members and partners in accordance with its vision and mission statements.
KIA is a local organization, but it will expand and incorporate committed and willing members from across Ethiopia as well as throughout the world.
Core values
o Exemplary Leadership: KIA strives to be on the leading edge of knowledge and resource sharing by mobilizing, organizing, coordinating, and directing its members, community, and other stakeholders. Besides, we lead by example.
o Walk the talk: KIA is strongly committed to putting words, promises, and plans into action. KIA values concrete actions (not mere words and promises) as cornerstones for achieving its vision and mission.
o Inclusiveness: KIA members are heterogeneous in terms of age, gender, educational background and specialization, religion, political view, work sector (public, private, NGOs), and position. They serve a diverse population, including farmers, agro-pastoralists, businessmen, faculty, and students. KIA also works with assorted partners and stakeholders with different interests at the local, national, and international levels. KIA recognizes that their members and partners may have diverse purposes and missions, diverse resources, and divergent needs. Decisions undertaken by governing bodies on behalf of the association are, therefore, made with the principle of inclusiveness in such a way that gives the greatest respect and support to these differences and diversities. Besides, KIA ensures the equal participation of all, equal access to and benefit from our resources, and always considers the rights and feelings of others. KIA strives to create an environment where all people feel welcome, respected, valued, and heard. KIA also focuses on respect for human rights, impartiality, and dignity for all segments of society.
Adaptability: KIA intends to be a lively, flexible, and dynamic organization, able and willing to adapt to the changing needs of members and the community and the shifting conditions of technology and development.
Education and Learning: KIA values the vigorous exchange of information and ideas among its members and the community that it serves, as well as with other key stakeholders outside of the association with whom it may interact and collaborate. KIA values learning where members and the community continually learn, nurture positive thinking, prioritize collective aspirations, and expand the capacity to achieve the changes that they truly pursue.
Transparency and accountability: KIA’s decisions, actions, management, and governance intend to always be visible and open to all, and KIA is responsible and accountable for all its actions and decisions.
Integrity and professionalism: KIA’s principles and standards can and will never be compromised. KIA intends to always act professionally, with honesty, transparency, and compassion. KIA establishes and applies the highest ethical standards in all of its actions and decisions.
Excellence and innovation: a notable quality is the assurance of KIA’s work. KIA discovers and progresses so others can benefit from our advancement.
Synergy: KIA values collaborative problem solving and is committed to creating a friendly and productive environment for teamwork to promote synergy, creativity, reduce risks, and boost productivity.
